Dear Oklahoma Dirt Riders,

January 14th will bring a very crucial election to the Oklahoma Dirt Riders.  The club has grown significantly in the number of active members; increasing approximately 200% in the past two years.  The current administration has tried to increase membership by: offering benefits to members such as classes held during meetings, allowing members “ownership” of trails, offering events geared toward the entire family and letting members know that they make a difference.

To that end, we have had several classes on subjects such as suspension set up, fork seal replacement, brake bleeding, tire changing, etc.  We have adopted approximately 10 miles of trail at the Crosstimbers Riding Area to preserve single track.  We have had a “Family Fun Day” and a family outing at Andy Alligator’s.

We now have a wonderful and diverse group of members.  We have casual trail riders, serious OCCRA racers, and even a few quad riders.  We have members who prefer single track and those who like the trails highway-wide and smooth.  It takes the balance of all of us working together to get a balanced trail system, new ideas for improving the club and riding area, and ideas for promoting off-road riding in the great state of Oklahoma.

It is time to think seriously about what you want for the future of the club and how you can help promote riding in our state.  What should our club focus on?  What goals (if any) should it have?  What groups should it support/oppose?  Should it host events?  Should the club support trail maintenance at any of the local riding areas?  Should there be more/less benefits for members?

Now is the time for each of you to think about your new officers.  What do those running want for the club?  What plans do they have for the future of the club?  Have they shown a dedication to the club?  Would you do a better job as an officer?  Typically, the leadership has gone to whoever is willing.  This year, it needs to go to whoever is the most dedicated to making it better.

Positions that will have vacancies are:  President, Vice-president, Treasurer and two board positions.  The secretary position will be voted on, but term-limits will not force a vacancy in that position.

I certainly hope to see you all January 14th at 7pm at the marina for your input on the future of this great club!

Sincerely,

Rebecca Hinkle

President
